FUHSD holds three trustee-area workshops
As part of its transition from at-large elections to trustee-area elections, the Fremont Union High School District, whose boundaries include many households in south Los Altos, has scheduled a series of three Trustee Area Community Workshops in December.
The workshops will provide the opportunity for residents to learn about the transition to trustee-area elections, review the preliminary map scenarios, provide feedback and learn how to use mapping software to design their own maps. Attendees may bring a laptop if they want hands-on experience with the mapping software during the workshop.
The workshops are set for 6:30-8 p.m. Dec. 7 in the FUHSD board room, 589 W. Fremont Ave., Sunnyvale; 9:30-11 a.m. Dec. 9 in the Columbia Middle School library, 739 Morse Ave., Sunnyvale; and 6:30-8 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Quinlan Community Center, 10185 N. Stelling Road, Cupertino.

Living Classroom offers docent training
The Living Classroom program seeks volunteers to teach nature-based lessons and help care for local schools’ gardens.
Docent trainings are scheduled 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Dec. 18 and Jan. 22 in the Los Altos School District’s iLearn Studio, 201 Covington Road. Anyone unable to attend the trainings may inquire about apprentice-style training.
The Living Classroom program provides standards-aligned garden-based lessons in science, math and social studies. An integrated and multiyear curriculum framework allows concepts to be introduced, then reinforced and expanded through repeated exposure.
Trained volunteer docents provide lessons for grades TK-6 and help care for the schools’ gardens.
Docents will join a community of people who enjoy connecting kids with nature and teaching them where their food comes from.
No experience is necessary; Living Classroom representatives will teach volunteers everything they need to know.

Company recruits crossing guards
All City Management Services, the company that provides crossing guards at local schools, has immediate openings.
School crossing guards work a brief shift in the morning before school and in the afternoon after school, safeguarding local children as they cross busy streets.
Los Altos school crossing guards typically work fewer than two hours per day, divided into a morning and afternoon shift, but are paid for three hours if they work both shifts. Compensation is $20.50 per hour, or $61.50 per day. The work is outdoors and on school days only – no nights, weekends or holidays.
Crossing guards are also needed in Mountain View, where the hourly rate is $19.50.
