A split between the Los Altos baseball team and Homestead during the week kept the Eagles atop the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division standings but with Los Gatos and Palo Alto not far behind.

The Eagles (13-10) rebounded from a Wednesday home loss to beat Homestead (11-9-2) with a 6-4 away win Friday thanks to a complete game from pitcher Eric Colgrove, who gave up two earned runs and on 86 pitches over seven innings.

Los Altos jumped out an early 5-0 lead before the Mustangs responded with a run in the fourth and fifth innings, Eagles head coach Gabe Stewart said. Los Altos added a run in the sixth to make it 6-2 before Homestead scored two in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs and a runner on first and the tying run at the plate, infielder Darrion Wesley snagged a liner and got the final out with a throw to second, Stewart said. Eagles outfielder Kai MacQuiddy had two stolen bases and scored twice, getting three hits and an RBI.

Los Altos is in pole position in the league at 10-2, with Los Gatos and Palo Alto tied for second at 9-3. Los Altos has a two-game series with Los Gatos starting Wednesday 4 p.m. at Los Gatos, followed by a Friday home game.

It was a tough weekend for Mountain View after Palo Alto swept the Spartans 4-2 Wednesday and 9-8 Friday.

Mountain View took an early lead in the first inning Friday, 1-0, but could not stop the Vikings from scoring three runs in the third and four in the fourth to take a 7-5 lead. Palo Alto tacked on two more to make it 9-5, and a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh fell short. Chase Caringella and Christian Wenks had two RBIs each.

Wednesday’s contest saw Palo Alto score three in the third to take a 3-1 lead, and both teams added a run in the fifth inning to finish at 4-2. Mountain View now sits in fifth place in the De Anza Division at 6-6, with the top four places getting an automatic CCS playoff bid. Wilcox is in fourth place at 7-5.

St. Francis swept Sacred Heart Cathedral during the week and finished the regular season in fourth in the West Catholic Athletic League.

The Lancers (13-12-1) are now on a five-game winning streak, with all five wins in the league. Wednesday’s game saw the Lancers score seven runs in the third inning to put the game out of reach in a 9-2 win. Kyle Liu, Gino Cappellazzo and Jedd Chang led the team with two RBIs, while Cappellazzo and Roman Trinidad each had two hits. Senior Chris Han went four innings and gave up two runs.

St. Francis fell behind 5-0 in the first two innings of the game Friday before the Lancers scored 13 unanswered to eventually win 13-7. Cappellazzo had four RBIs, while Trinidad had a home run and two RBIs.

The Mountain View softball team (13-9) got three straight wins Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in De Anza Division play and are now tied for second with Milpitas at 7-3 going into the final week of the regular season.

The Spartans beat Homestead 2-0 Wednesday thanks to a shutout from pitcher Allison Marcelino and timely hitting from Callie Lentz and Paige Wardell to score a run in the fifth and sixth innings. The 5-1 win Thursday was followed by a 10-0 win over Fremont Friday in five innings. Marcelino had three RBIs, while pitcher Caroline Kim went five innings and had six strikeouts.

Los Altos (10-11) lost to Milpitas 8-0 Wednesday and beat Wilcox 6-5 Friday to move to 4-7 in league play.

The Eagles held a 6-1 lead going into the sixth inning of Friday’s game before Wilcox scored two in the sixth and two more in the seventh to give Los Altos a scare. Lucia Trujillo and Paula Lara-Espinoza led the team with two RBIs, while pitcher Sophia Asar got the win. The Eagles travel to Cupertino today for a league game.
