The environmentally focused fiscal sponsor TCI (Trust for Conservation Innovation) welcomes John D. Claussen to their board. He joins five other board members, all of whom have extensive experience in finance, business, nonprofit management, and environmental work.

Mr. Claussen is pleased to be able to draw on his considerable experience to counsel TCI: “Serving on the TCI board allows me to focus on issues of considerable importance to me– strengthening and supporting the ability of nonprofits to successfully design and implement strategies and solutions to address a range of environmental challenges.” Mr. Claussen is currently the Western Pacific Program Officer at the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. Before joining the Packard Foundation earlier this year he was a partner at Mazars Starling Resources, a global business advisory firm (formerly Starling Resources, a firm he co-founded in 2004).  He has advised and designed environmental, conservation and economic development strategies with business, government, and non-profit clients throughout North America and Asia for more than 15 years. A resident of Indonesia from 2004 to 2012, he has particularly deep experience in Southeast Asia. Previously, he was a senior associate at California Environmental Associates and worked for a number of high-tech manufacturing companies in the Silicon Valley. He also co-founded the non-profit Conservation and Community Investment Forum.  He holds a bachelor of science in biology from Valparaiso University, Indiana.

The Trust for Conservation Innovation is a nonprofit organization that provides nonprofit status and fiscal sponsorship services for innovative conservation projects.  TCI’s Executive Director, Robin Nakao, is pleased to have Mr. Claussen join the board: “Having someone from the philanthropic sector strengthens our board and gives us great insight into helping our projects understand how to get connected with the funding they need.”

By giving projects access to a shared platform of support services under the umbrella of their 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, TCI creates structure for environmentally focused visionaries to address pressing issues in areas as diverse as water and energy conservation, marine and fisheries conservation, sustainable food systems, environmental education and land conservation.

TCI was launched in 2002 to offer an alternative in the marketplace for low-cost, high-value fiscal sponsor services to nonprofit projects. TCI currently supports a host of exciting and cutting-edge projects that use innovative approaches to conserve natural resources, reduce pollution, and restore the environment all over the world.
