Overnight closure of Foothill Expressway slated June 22-23

All lanes of Foothill Expressway traffic will be detoured at the Loyola Bridge beginning June 22 at 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. June 23. This closure is necessary due to the Santa Clara County’s Loyola Bridge Widening Project.

Detour Information:

• North bound traffic: Exit at Fremont Avenue, pass the Loyola Drive, enter expressway;

• South bound traffic: Exit Loyola Drive, pass Loyola Drive, enter expressway.

Message signs are being used to advise motorists of the coming work, and to provide any necessary updates.

Bridge contractor Granite Construction will be using the closure to transition work zone setups to Stage 2 work. The Stage 2 work will prepare the bridge support structures along the sides of the expressway.

During Stage 2, Foothill Expressway traffic will be allowed in the inside or leftmost lanes, and the outside lanes will be closed in both directions.

Despite slightly reduced width on the bridge deck due to construction work, two-way east-west traffic will continue to be maintained across the Loyola Bridge.

In future months, there will be at least two more Expressway closures for girder placements, one for each side of the bridge.
