Mountain View will soon have one less CVS Pharmacy.

The CVS Pharmacy located in the Blossom Valley Shopping Center at 1798 Miramonte Ave. will close Oct. 26, and all prescriptions will be transferred to the CVS Pharmacy at 850 California St.

“Maintaining access to pharmacy services in the communities we serve is an important factor we consider when making store closure decisions,” said Amy Thibault, lead director of external communications at CVS Pharmacy. “Other factors include local market dynamics, population shifts, a community’s store density and ensuring there are other geographic access points to meet the needs of the community.”

Despite the closure at Blossom Valley, four CVS Pharmacy locations will remain open in Mountain View, Thibault noted.

For some local residents, however, the closure of the Blossom Valley CVS may mean transferring service to a different pharmacy.

“(Blossom Valley) is a very convenient location, and I’ve been going to this location for more than 15 years,” said Vaishali Khandekar, a Los Altos resident. “Walgreens is a tad closer (than the California Street CVS location). I’m actually even toying with the idea of looking at some independent pharmacies.”

Khandekar said she saw signs of the Blossom Valley CVS closing for a while now.

“It felt like the last few times I had been in there, the store felt like it was emptier, the shelves felt not quite as full as they used to when I had been there earlier,” Khandekar said.

In 2021, CVS Health announced it would close approximately 300 stores a year for the next three years beginning in spring 2022, saying that the company “has been evaluating changes in population, consumer buying patterns and future health needs to ensure it has the right kinds of stories in the right locations for consumers and for the business.”

But for Khandekar and other Blossom Valley CVS Pharmacy customers, that means driving longer distances for the exact same services.

“This is the place where I used to get my flu shot every year, so now I’m going to have to drive more to get the same services that I was used to,” she said.
