The Mountain View Police Department is investigating a shooting Thursday night (Sept. 26) that resulted in non-life threatening injuries to a man whose wife believed their home was being broken into, according to a press release from the law enforcement agency.

Police spokesperson Katie Nelson said it is unclear at this time who possessed the gun between the husband and wife when it was fired and hit the victim in the forearm in the 700 block of San Carlos Avenue.

Officers responded at approximately 9:45 p.m. and found the couple standing on their front lawn. The husband was suffering from his gunshot wound and was consequently taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to police.

The wife, who was uninjured, told the reporting officers her account. Nelson said the reason why she thought a home invasion may have been taking place is being investigated by detectives.

It is unknown at this time what type of gun was involved in the incident and whether it was registered, Nelson said. She planned to get back to the Town Crier on whether there were witnesses present at the scene and if the individuals involved would be named in the future.

The Town Crier plans to update the story as details come in.
