The Los Altos Community Volunteer Fair is set to return 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at State Street Market and the Assistance League of Los Altos in downtown Los Altos.
This year’s event, larger than last year’s, will bring together more than 25 local nonprofit organizations looking to share their missions and volunteer opportunities.
The fair is aimed at local residents who want to volunteer as an individual, with family or alongside friends. Attendees can meet representatives from the various nonprofits and discover how they can make a meaningful impact in the community while gaining new skills and enjoying new experiences.
According to fair organizers, volunteering can be a fun and rewarding way to engage with others while supporting causes residents care about.
Event highlights include:
• Connecting with local nonprofits. Attendees can talk with representatives and learn about volunteer roles suited for all ages and skill levels.
• Participating in the “passport” activity. Participants can earn stamps by visiting nonprofit tables and increase their chances of winning prizes.
• Enjoying the community spirit. The event encourages engaging with others while giving back to the community.
Los Altos resident Christian McCracken participated in last year’s event.
“I was able to talk with over 10 nonprofits and ended up volunteering with one as a docent,” McCracken said. “I even won a ‘passport’ prize. This year, I plan on returning with friends.”
Nonprofits reported benefiting from last year’s fair because they had the opportunity to network.
“It was a fun and productive event that helped my organization make new community connections, collaborate with other nonprofits and recruit volunteers interested in supporting our sustainability education mission,” said Amy Sabik, co-founder of local sustainability nonprofit SolPods.
