Home insurance article appreciated

I would like to thank Alex Wang for his recent article in the Town Crier on home insurance.

I was totally unaware of the requirement that the name on one’s homeowners insurance policy had to exactly match the name on the deed to the house. I’ve also shared his article with friends and they too had not realized this was necessary.

We all hope that we never have to use this insurance but it is certainly critical to be aware of all of the requirements should we need to use it.

Resident permit parking needed

Residents can no longer park on the street in front of their houses where “No Parking 8-12 p.m. signs have been posted around Los Altos High School to control student parking, which had been out of control for several years.

All parked cars, including residents’ cars, are subject to ticketing during the referenced hours. For residents with multiple cars or guests, this can be extremely inconvenient, even unsafe, as cars must be moved considerable distances on a daily basis.

This is especially true on a narrow cul-de-sac such as Fontainbleau Terrace where residents would not be able to park within the cul-de-sac itself during affected hours.

Los Altos needs to implement a permit system or similar alternative, in conjunction with the new signage to accommodate affected residents. The system need only apply to selected areas such as around the two high schools with their specific parking problems. The technology exists, is simple, and fees should cover costs.

The Los Altos City Council on Feb. 25 were scheduled to discuss changes to the existing parking restrictions. The signs have provided much relief to many residents, but we need a resident parking permit system to complete the job for those residents still inconvenienced.
