Victim of brutal assault expresses gratitude

A big thank you and update after being officially assaulted September 16 on the railroad tracks under the 280 south onramp off Foothill Expressway.

My battered, unconscious body was spotted by an alert traveler on the onramp who called 911.

There was a quick response from the Steven’s Creek/Loyola fire crew.

An ambulance and Los Altos police were on the scene shortly.

I was attacked by a total stranger. No words were spoken.

He came out the bushes and jabbed a pitchfork into my chest. One inch higher would probably have caused a fatal injury. Before I could duck, the assailant was hitting my left eye and skull. Then with a short handled spade, he hit the right side of my head and neck with the open side of the spade. That knocked me out.

This was around 1:30 in the afternoon.

The quick professional responders did a great job hauling me up the embankment to the ambulance which took me to Stanford ER. Stanford Hospital did a great job of taking care of me until I was well enough to go home.

Again a big thank you to all the professionals who assisted in my full recovery.

Many family and friends’ prayers were effective and much appreciated!

John Stephan
