Mountain View’s May Day Committee has scheduled its seventh annual march in support of immigration reform May 1.
The 2.1-mile march will begin with a brief convening ceremony at 4:30 p.m. in Rengstorff Park, near the intersection of Crisanto and South Rengstorff avenues in Mountain View, and will continue down Rengstorff to El Camino Real to Castro Street, arriving at Civic Center Plaza at approximately 6:30 p.m. for a one-hour rally with speeches and music. Speakers will include Judge LaDoris Cordell (Ret.), Mountain View Mayor Lenny Siegel and Police Chief Max Bosel.
The May Day Committee – comprising members of St. Athanasius Church, St. Joseph Church, the Community in Action Team, Our Lady of the Rosary Church and the Day Worker Center of Mountain View – is calling for “just and humane immigration reform that recognizes the human dignity for all immigrants, keeping families together, supporting alternatives to deportation and building a reasonable path to citizenship.”
“Fear and uncertainty dominates the lives of our immigrant neighbors this year as they struggle to provide for their families,” said Job Lopez, one of the march organizers.
Participation is open to all.
