Patrons loyal to Lucky Chinese restaurant won’t be disappointed with Happy Ben, which opened at the downtown Los Altos site at the start of this year.
Ben Zheng, a longtime chef at Lucky, took over the restaurant when the former owners sold the site.
The turnover was subtle, with the biggest differences in the name, an expanded menu and longer hours.
About 20 percent of the items on the menu are new, including more soup offerings and a selection of sizzling platters – prawns, beef, seafood, chicken and scallops – that were not previously offered. The lunch buffet selections will change weekly.
Happy Ben, located at 132 State St., is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunch, Mondays through Saturdays; from noon to 3 p.m. Sundays; and from 4:30 to 9 p.m. for dinner, daily.
