A GoFundMe page has been set up on behalf of a Monte Vista Christian School football player who suffered a concussion and nerve damage during an Aug. 26 game against Los Altos High School.
The player, Taylor Fernandez, was injured in a punt return collision that occurred late in the third quarter of the game at Los Altos High, and he left the field in an ambulance after receiving medical attention.
Spencer Ferrari-Wood, head coach of Monte Vista Christian, said after the game that Fernandez, a junior, lost feeling in his hands and feet and went to Stanford Medical Center.
Fernandez has undergone many tests and intense physical therapy over the past few weeks and is slowly regaining his mobility but still suffers from severe headaches and light sensitivity, according to the GoFundMe page. He was released from the hospital Sept. 15. Fernandez has been diagnosed with a severe concussion, bulging discs, major functional nerve damage and minimal structural nerve damage, the GoFundMe page stated.
The fundraising campaign aims to help with medical expenses, travel costs, tutors and food throughout Fernandez’s recovery. It is estimated that he will need physical therapy several times a week for three to six months, along with visits to Stanford Medical Center, Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz.
The efforts have raised approximately $6,300 toward the $100,000 goal.
