Stanford Shopping Center this weekend presents the fourth annual “Prelude to Spring,” a concert fund-raiser to benefit the international award-winning California Youth Symphony (CYS).
The event will take place in the shopping center’s garden courtyards, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday.
The Symphony’s string, brass and percussion ensembles will perform throughout the day.
Stanford Shopping Center is located at El Camino Real and Sand Hill Road, in Palo Alto.
CYS conductor Leo Eylar will lead performances by the Associate Orchestra at 12:30 p.m. and the full orchestra at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. in the Pavilion.
“Prelude to Spring” is free and open to the public.
To help raise funds for CYS, donation-drawing tickets for Stanford Shopping Center merchandise and gift certificates are available for a suggested donation at the concierge and in the pavilion during the performance. The grand prize is a $500 Stanford Shopping Center gift certificate.
Founded in 1952, the Palo Alto-based CYS is California’s first independent youth orchestra. CYS provides educational and performance opportunities to more than 300 young musicians annually.
The group has conducted 11 international tours and won the grand prize at the International Youth and Music Festival in Vienna in 1994.
