Businesses come, go, change hands on Main

Blue Horse Saddlery emptied the contents of its shop at 169 Main St. last week, transitioning to an online-only retail presence.

Owner Sara Kenny noted on her website that she was seeking eventually to move the business to a smaller brick-and-mortar location. The equestrian supply store operated for six years in the space formerly occupied by Full Thread Ahead knitting shop.

A new tenant, Cassalto, has already stepped in the space. Described as a “modern casework, furniture and accessories” store, Cassalto’s proprietors plan to remodel before opening in a few months.

Los Altos Hills resident Sherry Scott is leading the effort. She said the store will focus on kitchens and cabinetry but will stock lifestyle retail items for the entire home. Scott, who has a background in commercial interior design and imported cabinetry lines, added that Cassalto will be a full-service resource to design interiors.

Farther up the street at Gourmet Works (205 Main St.), new owners have taken charge. Los Altos residents Jacqueline and Jason Gladney now head the purveyor of handmade chocolates and gifts. Former owners Laura and Michael Chan, who purchased the store in 2012, said that much would remain the same after the grand reopening Saturday and Sunday. The event is scheduled to include complimentary refreshments, raffles and an opportunity to meet the Gladneys, who moved to Los Altos recently from Los Angeles.

Across the street at Cover Story (216 Main St.), change may also be afoot – owner Craig Cousins said no sale has closed, but the location is listed under a bulk sale notice this month. California law requires advance notice when most of the assets of a business are about to change hands.
