The Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) finishes its annual tour showcasing student art projects next week at Bullis-Purissima School, capping off the nearly two-month series of art shows at various local elementary schools.

Students participating in CSMA’s Arts in Action program completed the works, including ceramics, paintings, drawings, murals and self-portraits.

The program’s instructors are artists themselves who visit classrooms to share their own styles and techniques with their students.

The exhibitions feature a selection of work completed by students at each participating school during the past school year.

“Since September, students have been creating drawings, paintings and ceramic pieces and learning about line, shape, color and value,” said Linda Covello, the Arts in Action coordinator.

Oak School hosted its show May 18 with instructor Peggy Johnston; St. Nicholas School in Los Altos Hills hosted its show May 21 with instructor Katherine Purdy; Springer School hosted its show May 26 with instructor Edie Bella, and Bubb School in Mountain View hosted its show May 31 with instructor Jackie Krantz.

Bullis, the last school in the series, is scheduled to hold its show from noon to 3:30 p.m., Tuesday.

Arts in Action brings arts instruction to elementary school students throughout Santa Clara County. The program has been named an exemplary Artist-in-Residence Multi-Residency program by the California Arts Council and a mentor program by the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts.
