Trader Joe’s on Homestead Road is closed for the remainder of the day (April 17) after a car barreled through the glass front door and into the checkout counter, according to Los Altos Police Sgt. Brian Jeffrey.
There were no major injuries, Jeffrey noted, though the 75-year-old driver of the sedan and several shoppers standing near the door were transported to nearby hospitals to be treated for minor injuries. A baby showing no visible signs of injury went to the hospital as well for precautionary reasons.
Los Altos Police responded to the incident at 11:45 a.m. Jeffrey said his department’s preliminary report indicates that the driver was pulling into a parking spot when her car’s engine revved and propelled the vehicle through the front door.
“We’re not sure if it’s a mechanical or operator error,” Jeffrey said. “Officers are speaking with her at the hospital.”
More information will be posted as it is made available.
