On Sept. 21, 2024, the 6th Annual Harvest History Festival took place at Heritage Park in Mountain View, uniting the community in a celebration of local history and shared traditions. Organized by the Mountain View Kiwanis Club, the festival offered a fun and educational experience for families and individuals of

all ages.

A key element of the festival’s success was the active involvement of local youth, particularly the Kiwanis-sponsored Key Clubs from Mountain View and Homestead High Schools. These service-driven student organizations were entrusted with significant responsibilities throughout the event. Their leadership and dedication were evident in the seamless operation of refreshment stands, where they sold coffee, donuts, and water, and managed the busy raffle booth, which featured prizes generously donated by local businesses.

The Key Club members also added creative flair and a youthful energy to the event. One of the standout activities was the interactive puppet show, a student-led initiative that captivated younger children and encouraged their engagement in the festivities. The face-painting booth, another highlight, was entirely run by Key Club volunteers, providing kids with colorful and artistic designs that contributed to the festive

atmosphere.

Beyond their involvement in entertainment, the Key Clubs demonstrated a commitment to raising awareness about local history. They hosted an educational booth dedicated to the Immigrant House, a significant historical site within Heritage Park. The students shared the story of the Immigrant House, emphasizing its role in the area’s heritage and the importance of preserving local landmarks.

Known for their enthusiastic spirit, the Key Club members, affectionately nicknamed the “Penguins” for their hard work and teamwork, also played a vital role in setting up and tearing down the event. Their contributions were pivotal to the smooth operation of the festival,

and their involvement reflects the mission of the Kiwanis International organization—to empower youth to become caring, active leaders in their

communities.

Looking ahead, the Mountain View Kiwanis Club continues to work closely with its Key Clubs, nurturing the next generation of leaders through service opportunities like the Harvest History Festival. The success of this year’s event highlights the positive impact that young people can have when given the opportunity to lead and serve.

With plans already underway for the 7th Annual Harvest History Festival, the collaboration between the Kiwanis Club and its Key Clubs ensures that this beloved community event will continue to grow, fostering stronger connections between local youth and the broader Mountain View community.
