Troop 76 members achieve Eagle ranks

Two members of Troop 76 in Los Altos recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in Boy Scouting. Greg Herzl and Cole Limbach received their awards Jan. 18 at a Court of Honor ceremony at the Lucie Stern Community Center in Palo Alto.

Herzl, the son of Laurie and David Herzl of Palo Alto, joined Troop 76 in 2006. For his Eagle project, he helped Foothill Congregational Church, where Troop 76 holds its meetings. The church was in the planning stages of relandscaping. Herzl oversaw the removal of ivy that had taken over most of the available space to prevent it from resurfacing when new landscaping was installed.

Currently a senior in the Foothill Middle College program, Herzl is interested in pursuing paramedic training and a degree in Wildland Fire Management.

Limbach, the son of Sandra and Doug Limbach of Los Altos, began his Scouting journey as a Cub Scout in Pack 74 and joined Troop 76 in 2007. For his Eagle project, Limbach returned to his former school, Egan Junior High, and consulted with Principal Brenda Dyckman on the school’s various needs. They selected a project for the music department and its teacher. With the assistance of Bruce Bauer Lumber and Supply, his father, fellow Scouts and friends, Limbach built a 16-foot-by-8-foot storage shed. The project required approximately 380 man-hours.

Limbach is a junior at Los Altos High School and hopes to pursue degrees in history and law.
