Egg hunts, bunny rabbits and the end of the world

I loved to see my children scurrying after hidden colored eggs. One of my daughters was also enamored with her cuddly-furred rabbit. These are current cultural symbols of Easter. A third symbol is the cross. To many in our world the cross represents hope. Since the start of civilization’s calendar, the empty cross has brought hope that there will be an end to human futility. But now wars have our attention again and also a scary semi-sentient computing power called Artificial Intelligence.

My daughter asked me recently, “Dad, do you think this is WWIII?” My thoughts were to trust in our faith. We have a hope in a Kingdom of the future and a love we are called to share today. Let us call on friends and family to renew our faith this Easter Season. Visit a church near you this Lenten season which is the 40 days leading up to Easter on April 5. Pray for God’s mercy!

Appalled by out-of-district enrollment

I was appalled to read in the Letters to the Editor (March 12, Ballooning BCS out-of-district enrollment…) that 17% of Bullis Charter School students are not from the Los Altos Elementary School District, and that they are costing our district (and taxpayers) over $10,000 each per year. I checked on the figures. They are correct.

I also found out that charter schools can enroll out-of-district students. That is wrong in my opinion, and I feel the state law should be changed.

Bullis Charter School charges each student $7,000 to attend this “public” school. Do they need more money? How many out-of-district students will they enroll?

Perhaps each of those students could pay LASD $10,000. Ha!

I am outraged that the other students attending LASD schools are being shortchanged.  Finding this out, together with everything else I know that has happened in the last 20+ years, just might cause this aging activist to come out of retirement.
