Return stolen art

On March 27, 2024, the Town Crier ran an article entitled “‘Young at Art’ Awards Announced” by Mark Rogge of the Los Altos Rotary Club. The article showcased the winners of this year’s Young at Art contest sponsored by the

Los Altos Rotary Club. The Young at Art entries were all hung at the Los Altos Library during the month of April. Unfortunately, upon taking down the display, it was discovered that one of the winning pieces had been stolen.

The stolen piece is titled “A Teenage Mind.” It depicts a rubber duckling sitting atop a stack of thought-provoking books, fruit, and the ubiquitous

Nintendo Switch, on a background of fabric.

The Los Altos Rotary Club requests the help of the public in recovering the stolen piece. Anyone with information about the stolen piece can contact the Young at Art co-chairs Anne Kearns or Barbara Small at [email protected].

Great neighborhoods

GreenTown Los Altos values community building so we recently hosted a lunch at the State Street Market with people who are neighborhood organizers. We asked what makes your neighborhood great.

Mayor Jonathan Weinberg joined us as we shared ideas.

Great neighborhoods have block parties. It’s fun to  chat with neighbors, old and new, but there can be more – music, games, ice cream and food from the many diverse cultures in our town. Some neighbors get together on National Night Out in August. That gives them a chance to meet the Police Chief, patrol officers and maybe a  crew from the fire department. Some neighbors form Block Action Teams (BATs) to help each other in an emergency. Some have hiking groups. Some even have tool-sharing groups. GreenTown likes

that because it fits with the consume-less, waste-less lifestyle.

Lots of neighborhoods are doing things, but if yours isn’t one of them, get inspired and host a block party. GreenTown can help with loaner waste-free party packs with cups, plates and utensils. Check out our website at greentownlosaltos.org.
