The Los Altos Youth Commission planned and hosted its first-ever Teen Music Night at the Los Altos Community Center April 21 under the leadership of Angel Rodriguez and Will Hanel.

The event was a vibrant celebration of local youth talent, aiming to forge new connections and friendships in a positive and inclusive way.

Supported by a live DJ, musicians took to the stage for solo and group performances. Cover songs as well as original pieces were performed by singers, a pianist, a guitarist, violinists, a cellist and a traditional rock band.

Performers from local schools such as Los Altos High School, Egan Junior High, Homestead High, Santa Rita School, The Nueva School and Keys School all participated. This welcomed, post-pandemic gathering was a smashing success!

I would like to thank Axelle Allanic from the Ecology Club at Los Altos High for providing plants to each of the participants, and the city of Los Altos for hosting and supplying refreshments. Youth Commission music event organizers Talinn Hatti, Aarthi Venkatraman and Serina Cao hope that this will be the first of many Teen Music Nights.

The Youth Commissioners would like to provide more opportunities for teens to express themselves and connect with one another through the universal language of music, creating a sense of belonging and pride in their community.

Lynette Lee Eng is a member of the Los Altos City Council and the council’s liaison to the Youth Commission.
