Increase prescription drug access

Patients and caregivers in California and throughout the country are tired of waiting on Congress to take action to help increase prescription drug access and reduce out-of-pocket costs at the pharmacy.

As the caregiver to my uncle, who suffers from high blood pressure and relies on prescription medications, I sincerely hope our legislators in Washington will do something to address this issue by reforming the practices of Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs).

PBMs should not be able to dictate when and where patients can access the doctor-prescribed medications and treatments they need to stay healthy. Yet that is exactly what they are able to do today thanks to harmful PBM policies like prior authorization and pharmacy “steering.” Our legislators in Congress, including Senator Padilla and Representative Eshoo, should help pass the Delinking Revenue from Unfair Gouging (DRUG) Act to put an end to these and other harmful policies that can lead to higher out-of-pocket prescription costs for patients.

Our lawmakers have an opportunity to pass critical PMB reforms now by incorporating this much-needed solution into the budget package Congress must pass by March 8. Hopefully, Congress doesn’t let this opportunity pass them by again.

Candidates and climate change

Thank you, Los Altos Town Crier, for your comprehensive coverage of the 10 candidates vying for U.S. Rep. Anna Eshoo’s seat in the 16th Congressional District.

Thank you, also, for your Jan. 10 and 24 articles calling attention to the District 16 candidates’ debates on climate change.

Since climate change is at the top of my list in terms of selecting a candidate, I found the debates to be extremely beneficial. They were recorded on YouTube and can be watched at youtube.com/@CD16Panel.

Citizens’ Climate Lobby was instrumental in organizing these informative debates. For many years Rep. Eshoo has met with members of Citizens’ Climate Lobby, and we greatly appreciate her strong support for solutions to climate change.

I hope Rep. Eshoo’s successor will be equally as passionate about taking action on climate.
