The Los Altos School District (LASD) appointed Brandon Stroy to its board March 19 during a special meeting where the Board of Trustees interviewed four candidates for the seat vacated by former trustee Vladimir Ivanovic. Stroy will serve through the end of Ivanovic’s term in December 2026.

An attorney and former LASD student, Stroy brings professional experience and community involvement to the board. A longtime Los Altos resident, he has volunteered extensively with local schools and organizations and currently serves as president of the Blach Junior High School PTA.

Board President Vaishali Sirkay said choosing among the candidates was “no easy feat,” noting the responsibility of overseeing public funds and student outcomes. The board ultimately voted unanimously to appoint Stroy.

“This is public money we’re trusted with … but even more, it’s people’s children,” Sirkay said. “I’m looking for someone who understands the gravity of this position and is willing to serve with that responsibility in mind.”

Ivanovic resigned from the five-member board on March 11, creating a temporary vacancy following disagreements with the board over district plans, including the allocation of the proposed “10th site” in Mountain View to Bullis Charter School. His departure prompted discussion about maintaining a range of viewpoints on the board.

Under California law, school boards have 60 days to fill a seat either through a special election or a provisional appointment. The board opted for the latter, citing cost savings and the need to maintain continuity.
