A live competitive painting event with a theme of “Connections” will debut in Los Altos 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at 170 State St. inside the State Street Market.

Six Bay Area artists will complete their works in just three hours, and the community is invited to watch the creative process unfold.

The event is a collaboration between Arts Los Altos and State Street Market, with all food vendors at the market open during the event.

Four of the competing artists have previously painted murals sponsored by Arts Los Altos: Nora Bruhn (“Floral Therapy,” on the Town Crier building), Emily Fromm (“Main Street Movie Theater Remembered,” on Third Street, Francisco Ramirez (“Grateful Harvest,” at the DeMartini Orchard), and Roan Victor (“Apricot Blossoms,” above BK Collections on State Street and “California Birds, Stewards of the Environment,” at Comerica Bank on Third Street).

Also competing will be San Jose artist and teacher Elba Martinez and multimedia artist/graphic designer Ben Henderson. Each artist will have an easel and 48-by-60-inch canvas, supplying their own paints and brushes.

The competition begins at 11 a.m. and concludes with completed artworks and prizes at 2 p.m. Two cash prizes will be awarded, one for the popular vote and another selected by the judges.

Attendees can vote for their favorite painting (one vote per person for one artist only).  This is a unique opportunity to observe the artistic process from the first brush stroke to the last in a variety of different styles and different interpretations of the theme, “Connections.”
