Town Crier looking for writers to spin Spooky Stories

October is here, which means Halloween is right around the corner – and so is the Town Crier’s annual Spooky Stories contest.

We’re offering storytellers of all ages the opportunity to weave a Halloween-themed story in under 400 words. We’ll award first-, second- and third-place honors to the authors. First-place authors will receive a prize.

Subject matter is wide open. The story doesn’t have to be scary, nor should it be gory or in bad taste.

Send stories by Oct. 23 to Editor Bruce Barton at 138 Main St., Los Altos 94022, or email [email protected].

Artwork accompanying the story is optional but welcomed.

We will run as many stories as we can in our Oct. 30 Halloween edition. So get writing, spook-sayers!

Award-winning artist shows at library

Jennifer Li, a junior at Pinewood High School and long-time Los Altos resident, is among members of BPC Art Studio having works exhibited through the month of October at the Los Altos main library.

Li has been actively involved in the local art community, studying at Drawn2Art, CalColor and BPC Art Studio (all local art studios).

Her work has been recognized with the Scholastic Art and Writing Award and the Celebrating Art Award.

This exhibition marks Li’s first major public showcase.

The Los Altos main library is located at 13 S. San Antonio Road.

Volunteers needed for Festival of Lights

The Los Altos Festival of Lights Parade Association is looking for volunteers – time commitments negotiable – to contribute to this year’s annual event.

The parade, a longstanding community favorite, is scheduled this year for 6 p.m. Dec. 1.

The parade, started in 1977, is a completely non-profit, all-volunteer-driven affair featuring elaborate, lighted floats, costumed holiday characters, marching bands from local high schools, dance teams and classic cars featuring local celebrities.

Opportunities to volunteer include the costumes, float, transportation, operations and ham radio crews supporting the event.

For more information or to volunteer, visit losaltosparade.org.
