The Los Altos Police Department’s inaugural Public Safety Open House on Saturday drew an estimated 400 people, many of them families with young children who were entertained by myriad activities. The three-hour event included tours of the police station, vehicle displays and doughnut decorating.
Police Chief Angela Averiett said the open house, her idea, was a “huge success. … We didn’t know what to expect since we have never done this before. But once people began to show up, we knew it was going to be a wonderful experience. There were giveaways and fun activities for all ages, and pets, too!”
Averiett offered thank-yous to: Archie’s S&Q Catering who partnered with Get It Girl Fitness to serve “delicious” hot dogs and hamburgers; the Santa Clara County Fire Department; Pets in Need; Palo Alto Animal Services; Gogo Biblio; Resilient Los Altos; Los Altos resident Art Carmichael, who provided a vintage police car and vintage fire engine; Safe Moves Bicycle Safety; and Rode.
“We look forward to growing this event and strive to continue our efforts in trust and community building,” Averiett said.
