Mountain View firefighters are slated to host their 14th annual Pancake Breakfast and Silent Auction 8-11 a.m. Saturday at Fire Station No. 4, 229 N. Whisman Road.

The event turns the station “into Disneyland for three hours,” according to Jenna Graham, a lead organizer of the breakfast.

There won’t be roller coasters, but there will be breakfast food, along with CPR training gear and vehicle extrication demos to amuse kids of all ages. Firefighters will also lead lessons on fire and injury prevention.

Graham said the rudimentary training can come in handy in critical moments; a woman who oversaw a daycare center put out a fire in the house, having learned how to use an extinguisher at the pancake breakfast.

“It’s a lot about teaching people how to live in healthier and safer ways teaching people how to handle some of these emergencies and keep them small emergencies instead of really big emergencies,” Graham said. “Because fire can be so devastating.”

Proceeds will go toward the Mountain View Firefighters Random Acts, which helps residents impacted by fire-related incidents. The nonprofit plans to donate the money raised Saturday to the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation, an organization dedicated to preventing burns and fires, and provides services to survivors of burn injuries.

“It’s an absolutely amazing pancake breakfast,” said Stephanie Boydell, AARBF development manager. “It’s one of the most successful I’ve ever seen… Last year, they donated about $18,000.”

Past donations have gone toward burn prevention education and community outreach, and have also paid for 150 Bay Area children to attend Champ Camp, according to Boydell. The annual summer program, held at Wonder Valley Ranch in Sanger, provides burn-afflicted children the opportunity to “be regular kids” and “not have to worry about people staring at their burn scars or asking them questions,” Boydell said.

Tickets to Saturday’s event are $10 for adults and $6 for children.
