A man from Georgia has been arrested for attempted murder after he allegedly opened fire Oct. 14 on a home at Oak Knoll Circle in Los Altos Hills, according to Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office and media reports.

Sheriff’s personnel identified the suspect as William Brady III, 43. According to one report, Brady had allegedly been involved in a domestic violence dispute with his intended victim at the Oak Knoll residence. A restraining order had been sought against him. A person inside the house returned fire, wounding the suspect.

The department received a call shortly after 11 a.m. from a woman who said Brady was stalking her and had come to the house. “As county communications was still getting information from the caller, the situation escalated with the suspect forcefully entering the residence,” said Sgt. Rich Glennon. “The suspect began shooting at the occupants inside the residence.”

Glennon said a male occupant told dispatchers he had exchanged gunfire with the suspect, and that the suspect had fled the residence. Officers found Brady outside with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Brady is expected to survive his injuries. Investigators also found a firearm believed to be Brady’s.

Los Altos Hills Sheriff’s deputies blocked off traffic and ordered residents to “shelter in place” during the tense mid-day incident.

Los Altos School District officials informed parents of a “shelter in place” order for Gardner Bullis elementary school, approximately three miles from the scene. The campus was locked down for 50 minutes before deputies gave the “all clear” signal at approximately 12:45 p.m. after a suspect had allegedly been apprehended.

Glennon said the identities of the victim are not being released, and that all victims have been granted emergency protective restraining orders against the suspect.
