The recent rains in Los Altos have not presented any major problems so far, city officials indicated, but public works crews have been working hard to limit damage.
“The maintenance crews have been on storm patrol since the rains started,” said City Manager Marcia Somers. “This includes doing rotational reviews throughout town checking any ‘hotspots’ that have caused problems in previous storms and generally keeping an eye on what’s happening throughout the city.”
Somers said crews did preparatory work making sure storm drains were clear prior to the start of the rainy weather which helps to keep the storm water flowing. With the late leaf drop and recent higher winds, crews continue to work on clearing drain inlets. “This activity will be conducted on an ongoing basis while the rains continue,” Somers said.
The city of Los Altos provides a complimentary sandbag station to help residents protect property from flooding during the rainy season. The self-serve station is located in the parking lot of McKenzie Park. The station is accessible daily and will remain open through the end of the season.
