Although they are currently promoting a “moving out of our Los Altos showroom” furniture sale, Design & Interiors owners Marcy Puccetti and Amy Randazzo are by no means going out of business – they’re merely downsizing.
“We’re consolidating our resources,” said Randazzo, who has been co-piloting the family business with her mother since her father and founder Bill Puccetti died in 1999.
“We’re bringing in a lot of merchandise from other stores and we’re going to pack the floor,” Puccetti said of the showroom sale.
Located at 170 State St. in Los Altos, Design & Interiors also has stores in Lafayette and Los Gatos.
The longstanding business, celebrating 30 years of operation in 2011, started as an interior-design showroom.
“As we acquired more furniture, it became more of a furniture store,” Puccetti said.
But with 8,000 square feet in the Los Altos showroom, “it doesn’t pay to have so much square footage,” she said.
Puccetti and Randazzo will keep their second-floor office in the same building and convert to a studio showroom, while scouting a new location in the Los Altos area.
“Our scaling down has nothing to do with our landlord,” Puccetti said, referring to Passerelle Investment Co. “They’ve been very supportive – I can’t say enough about them.”
Puccetti said she expects to be out of the Los Altos showroom by early next year.
After three decades, Puccetti said she still loves the business, which has involved building up trust and loyalty with generations of customers and solid relationships with interior designers.
“I love hearing back from clients on how happy they are,” she said.
Their success, Puccetti said, amounts to good value, fair prices and excellent service.
“We have the support of our vendors to where we can offer the best possible pricing,” she said. “We have a warehouse and our own delivery people.”
That success is continuing.
“We don’t want people to think we’re gone,” Puccetti said. “We’re going to be here.”
