MARY ELIZABETH SHEWNACK KNOX

Our loving wife and mother, Mary Elizabeth Shewnack Knox died peacefully at home with her family on July 12, 2007 in Redding, CA. She was 85 years old. Mary was born in St. Maries, Idaho on June 5, 1922. She is survived by her husband, Chuck, her children, Charles Knox and his wife, Alice of Redding, CA; Nancy Helmer and her husband, John Bodenburg of Kona, HI; Ginny Knox of Renton, WA; and Bob Knox of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; her grandchildren, Donna Knox of Renton, WA; Melissa Sheffield and great granddaughter Taylor Sheffield of Otterberg, Germany. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and good friends. Mary is preceded by her brother, Robert Shewnack and her grandson, Paul Knox.

Chuck and Mary just celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. They raised their four children in Mountain View, CA, then moved to Cupertino, CA. Several years later they chose to retire in Redding in 1983. Mary enjoyed playing bridge as often as she could. She volunteered at Allied Arts in Menlo Park which raised money for Stanford Children’s Hospital. She really loved helping at the St. Williams Parish annual rummage sale in Los Altos, so it was natural that she would combine her love of animals and rummage sales to volunteer at Redding Haven Humane’s Neat Repeats shop for over 20 years. Mary really loved entertaining at her home for family and friends. She decorated her home for every holiday, and especially loved Christmas.

There was a Mass and service Thursday, July 19th at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Redding, CA.

Memorial Contributions can be sent to Mercy Hospice, 1544 Market Street, Redding, CA 96001; phone 530-245-4070.
