The Mountain View Library Foundation will present the third annual Black History Month Faire to celebrate Black History Month 2006 in Mountain View. The event will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Mountain View Community Center located at 201 S. Rengstorff Ave. The faire is free and open to the public.

Co-organizer Rosiland Bivings said, “This is our third year of doing this event in the Mountain View community. This Faire is a good opportunity to see a variety of Afrocentric products such as books, videos, art and apparel. I really appreciate the community and the city supporting the event.”

The Mountain View Library Foundation has supported the efforts of Bivings, who is currently president of the library foundation board of directors, for the past seven years .

Martha Maris, foundation board secretary and retired Bay Area manager of public affairs at Hewlett-Packard said, “The Library Foundation supports and eagerly promotes any opportunity for education and diversity to be displayed. We are glad that we can provide leadership in recognizing community diversity.”

This is the third year of the Black History Month Faire. The inaugural 2004 event was a great success, with more than 500 attendees throughout the day and 20 vendors with everything from ethnic dolls and books to vintage Negro Baseball League apparel and memorabilia.

The faire is also co-sponsored by the Mountain View Human Relations Commission and Foothill Disposal Co.

The Mountain View Library Foundation was founded in 1996 to assist the Mountain View Library with program funding not provided by the city. For more information, call 526-7014.
