The Foothill College Commission’s fourth annual summer gala, held July 24, raised funds to support the students and programs at Foothill College.
The evening’s events, arranged by Co-chairpersons Ginny Lear and Steve Acres, included a special showing of “Ragtime” directed by Jay Manley. Manley discussed the history of the musical and the Foothill production with the guests.
President Bernadine Chuck Fong presented an overview of the state of the college.
Auctioneer Bruce Kaiser kept things lively on bids for vacation packages, dinner with Bernadine and Herbert Fong, and brunch with Chancellor Martha Kanter and Carl Brown. The auction raised funds for the Allied Health Program, which connects dental hygiene trainees from Foothill with youngsters in the community who need dental care.
Corporate sponsors included Agilent Technologies Inc., Gilbane Construction Company and The Joseki Group. “Angel Table sponsors” were Diane Doolittle, Bob and Jan Fenwick, Joe and Hon Mai Goodman, Betty Lohman, Armand and Eliane Neukermans, Bill and Ann Slautterback, and Bruce and Barbara Swenson. “Friends” were Martha Kanter and Carl Brown, and Gene and Penelope Midlock. Media sponsors for the event were the Los Altos Town Crier and the Palo Alto Weekly.
The Foothill Commission allocated $50,000, donated by the community, toward the Foothill Music Theatre, the soon-to-be-built Lohman Theater, the Foothill Library, the Heritage Rooms in the new Foothill Student Center, the Honors Program, Pass the Torch and the Environmental Horticulture program.
