When one of Joseph Feizzadeh’s teachers at Homestead High encouraged him to apply for the Bay Area All-Star Scholarship Team, he didn’t expect to receive one of the six scholarships up for grabs.
Feizzadeh’s decision to apply proved a wise one.
At a March 6 luncheon at San Francisco 49ers headquarters in Santa Clara, Feizzadeh and five other Bay Area high school students each received a $3,000 check to go toward college fees.
“I felt honored to receive such a prestigious scholarship,” Feizzadeh said.
The BAASST is a partnership of the region’s six major pro sports teams: the 49ers, San Francisco Giants, San Jose Sharks, Oakland A’s, Oakland Raiders and Golden State Warriors. Each team sponsors one scholarship, with Feizzadeh’s coming from the Sharks.
To qualify, college-bound seniors were required to have a minimum grade-point average of 3.0, display leadership qualities in the classroom and/or inspirational qualities on the athletic field and demonstrate the value of education, a good work ethic and community outreach.
In the classroom, Feizzadeh has a 3.8 GPA, despite taking a challenging schedule of courses.
The Cupertino resident plans on attending UC Berkeley for undergraduate study and Stanford University for graduate school.
