It’s been official since Sept. 1, but the name change from Borel Private Bank & Trust Co. to Boston Private Bank & Trust Co. became complete with a new sign atop bank offices at 345 S. San Antonio Road in downtown Los Altos.

The action completed a long-running transition for the bank, acquired by Boston Private Financial Holdings Inc. in 2001.

Bank officials announced the completion of “a corporate evolution in both services and strategic focus,” according to San Francisco Bay Area CEO James C. Garvey.

In an online letter, Garvey assured customers that there would be “no changes to your current relationship with us.”

Boston Private Bank’s website describes the company as “providing customized financial solutions to individuals, businesses, private partnerships and nonprofits.”

“As the saying goes, ‘As one door closes, another one opens,’” said Stephen Borel Fick, whose family’s banking business dates from the 1850s.

Boston Private Bank named Fick senior vice president and residential mortgage officer in March after he previously served as branch manager. The bank also appointed Barbara Alesch its vice president and branch manager.

“While we never closed our doors, the change to Boston Private Bank represents a new opportunity for our clients and the communities in which we operate,” Fick said. “Am I sorry to see the name Borel go away? Sure. But I realize we are a different bank. That being said, we are the same people providing our clients the same high level of service they have been receiving in the six and a half years we have been in Los Altos.”
