“Bermuda Avenue Triangle,” penned by the husband-and-wife team of Renee Taylor and Joe Bologna, is the final production of Palo Alto Players’ 69th season.

The comedy previews Friday and opens Saturday at Lucie Stern Theater, 1305 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto. “Bermuda” runs through July 1.

The story centers on two elderly widows – one Irish-Catholic and the other Jewish – who have been relegated to life as condo-mates in a Las Vegas retirement community, courtesy of their successful, career-driven daughters.

Soon the two seniors are the target of a mugging, only to be rescued by a charming stranger of the opposite sex.

The stranger winds up sleeping on the living room floor and the two cronies soon find themselves sucked into a head-spinning vortex of hilarity, romance and morals changes.

The Palo Alto production of “Bermuda” is under the direction of Arturo Catricala. The cast, in the order of appearance, includes Valerie Allen (as Rita), Melody Cole (Tess), Helene O’Connor (Fannie), Bill Badger (Rabbi Levine) and Tom Baxley (Johnny). Scenic design is by Karen Knoll and costume design by Justo Talamantez. Michael Palumbo has created the lighting design and Lisa Sramek is the properties designer.

“Our 69th season is a season celebrating spirit,” said Peter Bliznick, executive director of Palo Alto Players. “‘Bermuda Avenue Triangle’ brings our season’s theme to a comical conclusion when it rewrites the old adage: ‘When the spirit is willing, the flesh may not be so weak after all.'”

A paid preview performance is set to start at 8 p.m., as is Friday’s opening night show.

The curtain lifts at 8 p.m., Wednesdays through Saturdays, and at 2:30 p.m., Sunday and June 25.
