Three Mountain View residents walked away from the Mountain View Open 2000 tennis tournament at Cuesta Park with championship trophies on May 29.
David Frederick and Mark Nielsen combined forces to win the men’s double title and June Lee paired up with Sunnyvale’s Casey Louie to claim the mixed doubles crown.
Frederick and Nielsen beat John Sevely and Tomas Penicka 6-4, 7-6 in men’s doubles. Sevely is the head pro at the Cuesta Park Tennis Center and Penicka is the associate pro.
Lee and Louie pulled out a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 win over Francesca La’o and Sean Ohno in mixed doubles.
Louie also won the men’s singles crown, while La’o captured the women’s singles title.
Louie took care of Kris Santosa of El Cerrito 6-3, 6-3 in men’s singles. La’o, a San Francisco resident, cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Lodi’s Carolyn Nichols in women’s singles.
Glenn Louie, volunteer coordinator for the Mountain View Open, deemed the event a success, estimating that nearly 250 people attended the finals.
“The crowds were appreciative of the high level of tennis on display and the effort of the volunteers that organized this community event,” Louie said.
The open ran for three days and had 81 entries from all over Northern California. The event raised $1,000 for the Support Network for Battered Women.
