The Career Action Center (CAC) in Cupertino May 30 announced a companywide reorganization and downsizing in response to the changing economy and to address its role in helping individuals bridge the “Digital Divide,” the gap between individuals and communities that have access to computers, and those who do not.

“Over the past few years, the Career Action Center has worked hard to redefine its role within the New Economy and find new ways to serve those left behind the ‘Digital Divide’ in Silicon Valley,” said Sharon A. Bray, chief executive officer of the Career Action Center. “Center attendance numbers are down, and we must be fiscally responsible while exploring new ways to meet the new work needs of our Silicon Valley community.”

To do this, the Career Action Center will downsize the organization. Emily Mora, current Resource Center Director, will assume the role of interim chief operating officer. In her new capacity, Mora will lead the CAC in continuing to provide a high level of service while pursuing new directions that enhance the quality of work life and enable more individuals in our diverse community to share in the rewards of the New Economy.

“The CAC has a strong heritage of reaching out to individuals not otherwise served,” said Mora. “Today, we are drawing on our 27 years of knowledge and expertise to refocus on the needs of individuals and communities not yet served.”

Mora comes to the CAC from the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce, where she was Director of Communications and earlier, Executive Director of the Personnel Management Association of Aztlán, a national non-profit organization of human resource professionals.

The Career Action Center is a community-based organization helping to build a sustainable work force for Silicon Valley. Through extended outreach and collaboration, the CAC has broadened its client base to address the employability needs of the under-served.
