The real winners of the June 7 Rancho Shopping Center Pancake Roundup were the seven Los Altos elementary schools that benefited from door prize tickets for merchandise donated by the Rancho mechants.
Winner of the $500 Rancho Shopping Spree was Shari Elmer, a longtime Los Altos teacher from Loyola School.
The 38th annual Rancho Roundup benefit breakfast for the PTA served more than 2,000 early-morning pancake connoisseurs. Providing music were members of the Los Altos High School Jazz Band and guitarist Gulliver Spring. A petting zoo entertained the very young.
Long lines at the pancake roundup were improved with quick grill service this year, because professional chefs were provided by Andronico’s Market and Clarke’s Charcoal Broiler.
“This was one of our smoothest PTA benefit events we have experienced in years,” said Dave Leary, Rancho Merchants Association president. “It was the first time the event was conducted in front of Rancho’s actual stage area at the north end of the shopping center.”
Schools benefiting from the pancake breakfast are: Almond, Bullis-Purissima, Loyola, Oak, Santa Rita and Springer from the Los Altos School District and Montclaire School from the Cupertino Union School District.
Rancho’s next public event is an arts and crafts show June 20-22, followed by the annual Wednesday evening jazz series produced by the San Jose Jazz Society beginning 6 p.m., July 2.
